Introduction

According to a tradition of the Holy Prophet(sawaw) reported by one of his Sahabi - Abdullah bin Mas'ud, Dahwul Ardh is the day when the earth was spread for the advantage of human beings. The phrase "Dahwul Ardh" literally means "The spread of the earth". In another tradition it is reported that the first Rahmah & blessing descended on this very day. According to another tradition, it is the day when the earth was spread on water where the Kaaba is now situated.

It is reported on the authority of Imam Ali Riza(a.s.) that two important prophets namely Hazrat Ibrahim(a.s) and Hazrat Isa(a.s.) were born on this day. The Almighty Allah(swt), in Surat an-Nazi'aat, speaks about 'dahwul ardh': "and the earth - after that He spread it out (dahahaa)..."(79:30)

Special Aamal

This night is highly blessed and therefore, special aamal have been prescribed for this day/night as follows:

1) Observe fast in the day
2) Take a bath
3) After sunrise pray a special 2 rakat namaz and in each rakat after Sura Fatiha recite Sura Shams 5 times.
After the salam recite: LA HAWL WA LA QUWWATA ILLAA BILLAHIL ALIYIL AZEEM

4) Ziarat of Imam Ali Riza(a.s.) is also highly recommended to be recited today.
